The Room of a Thousand Fountains was peaceful this time of day. Most of the Younglings were in the middle of their daily classes, and many of the older Padawans were either with their respective Masters or going about their business. It was during this time of quiet that Kade liked to visit the grandiose gardens and allow himself some time for meditation. He had never been comfortable in any of the various meditation chambers, their cold and lifeless interiors with nothing but a cushioned stool to sit on and metallic walls and ceilings. They reminded Kade more of prisons, where the bodies of Jedi were kept safe and secure and their minds ran free. Instead, the young Padawan preferred to do his meditation in the midst of lush gardens and peaceful fountains, a place where his body could melt into the thick green grasses and his mind could run free.
A breeze tousled the shaggy mane of blonde hair that capped Kade’s head as he looked around the massive room. From his vantage point near one of the larger fountains he could see two of the older Jedi Knights discussing something in hushed tones and also the Temple Gardener was going about his business. The man’s hands and knees were covered in dirt and his face was also smudged with the substance, streaked only in areas where the beads of sweat had fought their way down. There were others in the gardens as well, Kade couldn’t see them but he could feel their presence in the force, each one of them a ball of burning hot light, each one unique in its own way. It wasn’t difficult to feel the presence of other Jedi when you were on Coruscant and it was even easier when you were inside the Jedi Temple.
Kade closed his eyes and allowed his thoughts to slow. Only the sound of the bubbling brook filtered through his ears and Kade began to regulate his breathing to the beat of the river. He turned his attention inward, focusing solely on the power of the force. He could feel it there within him, a tremendous aura of energy yearning to break free from its fleshy prison.
There was a sense of excitement, almost urgency, within Kade as he focused all of his attention on the power of the force within him. He wanted to dive wholly into the aura, lose himself completely to its power. The tremendous feeling of raw power caged within his fingertips would be awe-inspiring, Kade knew it, and he so desperately wanted to become one with the energy. In that flash of a second, Kade could see everything that the force had created him to be. It was as if the force was an extension of his own being, as if he could twist it, control it, and bend it to his very will.
There is no emotion, there is peace.
The words were not spoken, rather they were simply there, existing within Kade’s consciousness. They didn’t distract his attention from the aura of energy building within him, instead they seemed to manipulate his attention and direct his movement. Kade reached out towards the ball of energy, not hastily or clumsily, but with a sense of serene calm. As he pierced its center, Kade felt the tremendous energy flow through him, connecting him to the ebb and flow of its awesome power. It rushed through him like a tidal wave and suddenly Kade could feel the awesome power at his fingertips, only this time it was controlling him.
Kade lifted a hand to shield his eyes from the blinding white light and upon blinking a few times finally regained his bearing. He was inside the Jedi Temple, lying on the ground inside the Room of a Thousand Fountains to be exact, and he was soaked from head to toe in sweat. Pulling himself to a sitting position, Kade leaned against the stone base of the large fountain nearest to him and checked his chrono. Two hours had passed since he had begun his meditation and Kade couldn’t help but feel as if he had made some serious progress today.
“There is no emotion, there is peace.” This time the words were spoken, and Kade almost leapt at the sound of his own voice. He was beginning to think he might finally understand. It’s not that emotion does not exist but that it ought to be set aside. Emotions must be understood first, and it is a young Jedi's duty to explore his feelings. Kade laughed when he came to this last realization, and shook his head. A Jedi getting in touch with his feelings, that would definitely have to wait for later.
