Anger
The trial of anger is a test of ones' combat skills and ability to channel his or her rage in focussed attacks without being overwhelmed by it. Often this includes combating creatures, several other sith apprentices, or one more highly trained sith in an arena but it can also be done facing a jedi during a mission given by the master of the one taking the trial.
Fear
This trial is to determine if the apprentice can conqure his or her fears. Either the apprentice rids him or herself of fear or uses it as a source of power. Sith who fail this trial often die in the process. This trial can involve fighting off an attacker you can not see or sense with the force.
Hate
To channel ones' rage for the purpose of assault is one thing, but using ones own hatred to over come all obstacles, that is a trait vital to all sith. During this trial the apprentice is pushed to his or her utter limits, to fight against seeminly impossible odds and rely on his or her hate alone to complete the task. This does not need to be combat, but perhaps evading a dark lord while running through a constly changing obstacle course. Unlike the trial of anger, this does not need to be combat oriented, however it often is.
Secrecy
Sith are notorious for secrets, having them or discovering them. This trial often involves going to ancient sith ruins and deciphering datacrons or unlocking sections of tombs that belonged to the ancient sith to retrieve something burried within. This could also reflect the ability to keep secrets from others, such as removing information about locations that are important to the sith or that are simply strong in the darkside from the Jedi Archives (which is no easy feat).
Betrayal
This last trial is one where you must betray the closest person to you. This can be a family member, a friend, spouse, or even your own master. This is to show your devotion to the dark side and the ways of the sith. This almost always requires you to kill the person closest to you, but passing this trial could require you to disrupt the most important thing to him or her to benefeit the sith or for your own personal gain instead.
